New Life

A collector of materials to be repurposed, I came by it honestly, dumpster diving with my father as a child. I believe discarded items of the past tell stories when they become frayed, damaged, or are no longer desired. This is where beauty lies and I find inspiration in giving these mementos new life through my work. Many of the photos used in this series were sourced from dumpsters, boxes in thrift shops that are no longer, or in sailing through the yards of summer looking for treasure. Treasure always finds me and I’ve been honing my craft for years.

Pushing the boundaries of traditional gender roles is a theme that often comes up for me. I find myself wanting more for the women who came before me than losing their identities to the men they married or taking a last name and living the life of a housewife. It’s commentary on and refusal of these traditions that light the little fires under much of the work I create and aspire to create in the future.
